The 425‐acre campus is a designated arboretum, complete with gardens, rolling lawns, a creek, wooded hills, and hiking trails in the Crum Woods.

Work includes garden maintenance of all types, potentially plant records and curation, plant propagation and volunteer interaction. Summer interns work in all parts of the Arboretum among 18 special garden areas including the rose garden, pollinator garden, cherry border, teaching garden etc. in a campus arboretum of national recognition.

Essential Responsibilities:
Hands on gardening activities such as planting, weeding, pruning, raking etc. work may involve event set up and participation as well.


Additional Responsibilities:
Additional opportunities typically include attending the Woody Plant Conference, weekly plant walks, lunches with staff members, field excursions to visit area gardens, participation in the regional intern outreach service day, equipment use, writing "Plants of the Week,: a feature on the arboretum's blog and similar activities.

Required Qualifications:
Ability to work outside the majority of the time in all types of weather and temperature. A keen interest in ornamental horticulture and pursuit of horticultural experiences. Basic plant knowledge and gardening skills/interest. Ability to work well with a wide variety of individuals of all ages as a team player. Ability to lift 50 pounds, use gardening tools and equipment; follow instructions, use basic computer programs.

Preferred Qualifications:
Enrolled in a horticulture educational program or similar field. Previous garden experience and internships. Pursuing an Associates or bachelors in horticulture or similar field or a practical gardening program.
