Student Health and Wellness is located in the Worth Health Center, which is nestled in a multi-variety magnolia orchard adjacent to the Benjamin West Parking Lot right off of Rt. 320. The center comprises Student Health Services, Counseling & Psychological Services, and a comprehensive wellness education team.
Swarthmore’s Health and Wellness staff supports the needs of our diverse student body by providing individualized holistic care and campus-wide education. The nurse practitioner model offers acute and chronic health care services, as well as preventive health services with a focus on issues that impact college students. Students can also receive services in study abroad and travel immunization, allergy desensitization, reproductive health, vaccination, LGBTQ wellness, nutrition, alcohol and other drug counseling, and more.
The Student Wellness Program includes campus-wide events and activities that help build the skills necessary for healthy living through the promotion of physical, intellectual, mental, sexual, and spiritual health and wellness. The opportunity:
The Administrative & Insurance Coordinator provides high-level administrative support to the Director of Student Health and Wellness Services as well as the Student Health Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Nutritionist, Physicians, and wellness education team. Projects performed require a high level of autonomy.
Other tasks include: assist with all phases of projects supported by the department; draft and prepare correspondence and documents; interact professionally with members of the college community, parents and other visitors; manage data; maintain HIPAA standards; provide support with scheduling and answering phone calls; collects and distributes mail; processes invoices for health center supplies and other vendors; monitor the student health email inbox and respond accordingly; work in partnership with the health insurance broker and student account teams to conduct annual insurance enrollment and waiver process; update online student health portal platform with incoming student health requirements.
The person hired into this position is expected to work on campus during the academic year (August through May) and on a hybrid summer schedule during June and July.
Essential Responsibilities
- Monitor health email inbox and respond accordingly.
- Coordinate the student health insurance program.
- Assists with the annual enrollment and waiver process as well as assists students with resolving claims with College insurer and billing issues.
- Assist with ordering supplies and processing invoices/payments as directed.
- Provide assistance to the front desk nursing team in answering the phone and scheduling appointments as needed.
- Update online student health portal platform with incoming student health requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assists with a variety of budget activities, including monitoring expenditures, processing check requests, paying invoices, depositing checks and cash, and billing students for services at the Student Health Center.
- Answers parent, student, and other staff questions regarding policy and procedures.
- Maintains and regularly updates digital communications used for students and parents regarding the college insurance information and waiver process.
- Greets students and visitors in a positive and professional manner, listens responsively to concerns and complaints, addresses their inquiries, or directs them to appropriate staff members, college or non-college department, or for services needed.
- Maintains confidentiality of student and other sensitive information.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 3-5 years of job-related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

- Adapts to new work situations, people, ideas and procedures.
- Strong interpersonal skills that promote teamwork and help students and parents feel positive and confident about information given.
- Must be able to remain calm and assist with any health center emergency.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in higher education and/or a medical office.
- BLS/CPR certification.
Physical Demands
- Must be able to move boxes up to 30 pounds into closets and around the office as needed.
- Must be able to gather packages and mail from the college mailroom on a regular basis.

The market range for this position is $26.00 - $31.00 per hour, which represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range at the time of posting. The salary offered is determined based on factors including, but not limited to, experience and education of the final selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
