Who We Are:

We are Campus Services, which includes the Swarthmore College Post Office, Fleet, and the OneCard Office.

The opportunity:

Under the general direction of the Post Office Supervisor, the Campus Services Assistant I operates the customer service window to facilitate any services provided by the College Post Office. This position must be able to perform all the operational functions of the College Post Office. As time permits, assist with customer service aspects of other Campus Services functions, including Fleet Management and OneCard Office. This position is expected to work on campus year round, 35 hours per week, except when the College’s summer hours are observed. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the acquisition, maintenance, and accounting of all postage and shipping options, as well as maintaining a point of sale system, including completing request forms and generating daily and weekly reports.
  • Provide customer guidance regarding US and International postal and shipping rules and regulations, and answer general questions pertaining to operations.
  • Responsible for metering departmental mail.
  • Performs sorting, distributing, and accounting for several hundred pieces of mail and related items by faculty, staff, and students.
  • Assist with processing bills and invoices for various Campus Services functions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • In the absence of the Post Office Supervisor and the Associate Director of Fleet & Postal Operations they will manage the team of mailroom staff and student employees of the mail room.

  • Strong oral and communication skills to interact with faculty, staff, students, and co-workers.

What you bring:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and 1-3 years experience in a related position or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Relevant prior customer service experience is required; previous mail or retail experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office: Excel and Word, Google Sheets & Documents.

Working Conditions/Environment

  • Must be able to work in extreme hot and cold weather conditions in the office and loading dock; must be available to be on-call one weekend per month.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 70 pounds with help.
  • Ability to stand, stoop, walk, climb, and remain on one’s feet for extended periods of time.
