The Assistant Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement is an integral member of Swarthmore’s high-performing Advancement division. They are responsible for raising current philanthropic support for the College, primarily by:

● Managing and implementing digital campaigns for fundraising, donor engagement, new donor acquisition, and donor retention.
● Managing the young alumni giving program, including the young alumni ambassadors volunteer program, young alumni giving challenges, and assists with young alumni print and email appeals.
● Managing the Student Ambassador program, which raises $100,000+ annually and directly engages 2,000 alumni via emails, videos, texts, phone calls, and handwritten notes.

Hybrid remote work scheduling is available for this position.

Essential Responsibilities:
● Works closely with the Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement to develop and implement digital fundraising programs and strategies for meeting revenue and participation goals for the College’s fundraising efforts.
● Develops strategy and execution of the College’s digital fundraising, donor engagement, and new donor acquisition initiatives, including
o Days of giving (1-2 per year)
o Digital challenges (1-2 per year)
o Social media engagement (5-15 posts and ads per year)
o Texting campaigns (5-8 per year)
● Develops strategy and engagement of young alumni donors, including solicitation, stewardship, and young alumni challenges.
● Manages the Young Alumni Ambassadors Program (YAAP), a 10-25 person volunteer committee composed of young alumni who have graduated within the past 14 years. Includes one to two on-campus meetings per year and 10-15 calls/virtual meetings per year.
● Manages a Student Ambassador program, employing 5-10 students. Involves recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, and providing guidance and oversight of student ambassadors that solicit and steward assigned portfolios of 150-200 alumni each. Responsible for managing the program’s systems and overall productivity.
● Investigates and employs technologies to inform, educate, and solicit students and alumni.
● Maintains The Swarthmore Fund web pages related to young alumni engagement, and digital fundraising programs, as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervises 5-15 student ambassadors.

Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree.
● A minimum of one (1) year working in a development, non-profit, or marketing setting, or equivalent professional experience.
● Strong organizational abilities. Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple and varied tasks independently, while also working collaboratively.
● Strong written and oral communication skills, including imaginative and persuasive writing.
● Understanding of the best practices for crowdfunding and digital fundraising initiatives.
● Skill in dealing with people, using tact and diplomacy, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. Strong customer service skills.
● Skill in articulating the value of higher education.
● Ability to use a variety of computer applications, including demonstrated skills in the use of word processing and spreadsheets (e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Google Docs and Sheets).
● A familiarity with or ability to quickly learn a variety of web-based applications including reporting software (e.g. Argos), electronic broadcast software (e.g. Emma), Web page design software (e.g. Drupal), desktop publishing software (e.g. InDesign), texting software (e.g. Hustle), crowdfunding/day of giving software (e.g. GiveCampus), and other Internet applications.
● Must be able to work occasional evenings, weekends, or as needed to complete projects or meet heavy demand.
● Ability to communicate fluently in English, including the ability to speak in public.
● Valid US driver’s license and ability to travel locally and regionally.

Preferred Qualifications:
● Advanced degree.
● Experience working in a college or university setting,
● Experience creating social media campaigns and Facebook ads.
