The Nurse Practitioner and Assistant Director of Student Health and Wellness Services is a 9 month, full-time position, providing primary health care to students as well as administrative support to the Director of Student Health and Wellness Services. This position is a hybrid position combining both a clinical role and an administrative role for which the approximate break down of time will be 80% clinical and 20% administrative.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Provide direct patient care and perform consultations for other SHWS clinical staff to assist with patient management as required.
• Consultation with other medical providers and/or refer students to physicians and other community health care providers beyond the scope of a college health service provider as needed.
• Assists students in identifying and utilizing resources designed to improve and maintain health.
• Designs a comprehensive plan of intervention, treatment, consultation, and follow up.
• Prescribes or recommends medications or other forms of treatment within scope of practice.
• Provide assistance to Director in maintaining operations, standards of practice and policies for departmental function.
• Assists in updating various forms used in the Student Health and Wellness Center.
• Assist with immunization compliance and health record review of incoming students.
• Support campus emergency preparedness and response, including management of and effective communication about public health issues.
• Establish appropriate liaisons with other College departments, federal, state, and community health agencies, and other health related resources.
• Direct the administrative operations, and establish, review, and update policies and procedures to support staff and student needs.
• Serve on departmental, divisional, college, state and/or national committees as required or delegated by the Director of Student Health and Wellness Services.
• Participate in other related duties as directed.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Must be able to communicate in English, including excellent writing and effective public speaking and presentation skills.
• Must be able to operate standard office equipment, including computer, printer, copier, calculator, and fax machine.
• Must be able to speak on the telephone and consult with other medical providers.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and support to a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, a registered dietitian, a violence prevention advocate and educator, an alcohol and other drugs counselor and educator, and a medical insurance coordinator to ensure the delivery of quality primary health care, health education, and health promotion services to Swarthmore students.
• Will need to be open to on-call phone consultation which may take place after hours, on holidays and weekends.

Required Qualifications:
• Master’s degree or doctorate and completion of training as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
• Current Certification as a Registered Nurse Practitioner or license-eligibility in Pennsylvania at the time of hire. Ability to obtain, if not already held, license for prescriptive authority in Pennsylvania.
• National Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner.
• Current CPR/BLS Certification as well as proficiency in phlebotomy.
• Five years of relevant professional experience in health care services and administration. Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory and management experience including design, development, and direction of health-related programs and services, and responsibility for quality of health care practice and outreach.
• Knowledge of local and national issues, trends, and best practice standards in primary health care, college health, health insurance, and managed care, as well as of national certification.
• Ability to multi-task, triage health problems, and respond effectively to medical emergencies.
• Ability to triage mental health issues and work closely with colleagues in Counseling and Psychological Services to provide comprehensive health care support to Swarthmore students.
• Understanding of and appreciation for the values of residential liberal arts colleges rooted in Quaker traditions, including respect for the individual, consensus decision-making and social responsibility.
• Knowledge of and experience supporting a diverse student community, including race, gender, and LGBTQ+ identities, combined with an affinity for working closely with students.
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, communication and critical thinking skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with electronic health records desired.
• Experience with adolescent and young adult/college aged patients, preferably in a college health setting, is strongly preferred but not required.
