Broad search for a Research Assistant who will contribute to projects funded by the NSF and AHA. This position will entail three key sets of responsibilities - research using marine invertebrate embryos or mammalian cell culture, maintaining the lab and intensive mentoring of undergraduates. This position could be filled by a post-doctoral fellow with a strong interest in both teaching and research, by a lab technician with experience in education or undergraduate mentoring, or by a recent college graduate interested in gaining further research experience.
Your primary focus will be establishing a productive, independent research program The particular research focus can be tailored to your interests. This position entails an intensive focus on undergraduate mentoring, ensuring that students from diverse backgrounds feel empowered to pursue independent projects and fully enabled to do so in a supportive, positive and encouraging environment. You will also be responsible for helping to create a productive research environment, ensuring that equipment is functioning correctly and the lab is well-stocked.
Mentoring of undergraduate researchers.
Excellent communication skills and a commitment to undergraduate mentoring are essential. Applicants on the post-doctoral level should have a PhD (or be close to completing one) in a relevant subject area. Applicants for a research technician/lab managerial position must have extensive experience in molecular biology techniques and undergraduate mentoring. Recent college grads should have a degree in Biology or a relevant area along with a demonstrated interest and commitment to a career in research.
