Postdoctoral Researcher Swarthmore
The Smith Materials lab is seeking a highly motivated researcher with a PhD in materials science, physics, applied physics, mechanical engineering, or closely related field. This DOE-funded position is for a research project aimed at investigating dynamics in glass-forming liquids. Ongoing projects study a variety of glasses including metallic, oxide, molecular, and chalcogenide glasses. Neutron scattering experiments, with a focus on quasielastic and inelastic measurements, are performed at national user facilities, particularly the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to lead the project, collaborate with the PI and undergraduate students on high-impact publications, and present at key conferences in the field. Applicants with strong experimental skills and experience in neutron or X-ray scattering are especially encouraged to apply. The Smith Materials Lab is an interdisciplinary group of undergraduate students and research staff that thrives on teamwork and welcomes diverse candidates to join us. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a keen interest in developing leadership and mentoring skills. The successful candidate will work closely with undergraduate students at Swarthmore College. Therefore, demonstrated teamwork ability and experience in mentoring is required. The position provides plenty of opportunities to interact with faculty, postdocs, and undergraduate students in other departments at Swarthmore College and with national and international collaborators. This is a limited-term position and is renewed on an annual basis.

McCabe Library Access & User Services Evening Supervisor Swarthmore
Note: This position works Sunday through Thursday 5pm-1am during the academic year (9-month position, September through May). The Access & User Services department in McCabe Library provides services that connect library users to library resources. As a primary point of contact for users, the department strives to make the user’s experience positive and rewarding. The McCabe Library Access and User Services Evening Supervisor participates in the team-based operation of the McCabe Library Access and User Services department and is responsible for ensuring patron access to library collections, services, and facilities. They provide excellent customer service by responding to requests and informational queries and through the training and supervision of student staff (60 individuals). They support other activities of the library, including maintenance of the patron database, managing reconciliation of patron billing, and special projects to enhance discovery, access to e-resources, and interlibrary loan services. As a member of the department, the McCabe Library Access and User Services Evening Supervisor provides input for departmental policies and ensures their implementation. In the absence of the Head of McCabe Access and User Services, the McCabe Library Access and User Services Evening Supervisor is responsible for the management of all functions of the department.
Staff Counselor, Athletics Swarthmore
This position provides direct clinical services to primarily student athletes (including but not limited to triage, individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention), with some services provided to the broader student population. The position includes outreach programming, consultation, and professional training to student athletes, coaches, and staff on topics central to mental health needs, including NCAA and best practice guidelines. This position is embedded in the Athletics department and will split time between the Worth Health Center and the Athletics Offices. The Staff Counselor, Athletics is a full-time, exempt, benefits eligible, 9-month position. The expected schedule is working 35 hours per week from mid-August through mid-May.

The CRO Patrol/Communication is essential to the success of our community caretaking model and community engagement role. They are also responsible for the efficient and effective operation of the multi-faceted Swarthmore College Communication Center. The position maintains control of incoming telephone calls while providing direction for outgoing calls that are not direct dial accessible. The Officer courteously provides information and assistance by telephone, radio or in person to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The dispatch of internal communications, monitoring of CCTV, Access Control and both fire and intrusion alarms, as well as key control of organizations’ keys are all integral functions of the position. Coordination of communication or responding to incidents under demanding emergency conditions is an essential skill. Performs other duties as assigned.
On Call Public Safety Communications Officer Swarthmore
The On-Call Public Safety Communication Officer (PSCO) is a key role in Department's responsibility for the safety and well-being of Swarthmore College students, campus property, community members, and visitors. The Communication Officer will be responsible for courteous and active engagement with the community, through effective communication verbally and in writing. As a Communication Officer, you are the first contact for internal and external interactions and incidents involving the College and provide a service for routine and emergency calls to the College. You will receive initial information and take appropriate action to resolve or address the situation. You will manage the functions of the communication center as well as respond to radio transmissions and in person requests for assistance. You will also need to be able to have clear communication, verbally and written, for making reports on incidents and investigations. In this role, the primary duties of the PSCO are to assure continuity of practices and effective communication service to/for the Swarthmore College Department of Public Safety Communications Center (SCDPSCC), the College community, and local law enforcement agencies. This position requires a high degree of community engagement, cultural competency, and ability to navigate complex protocols for effective decision making based upon Department and College guidelines. The ability to provide clear communication, often under pressure, in a multifaceted communication center and navigate a variety of technology. Personnel in this position are considered “essential” in that they support a 24 hour, 7 day per week communication center operation.
