Communications Officer

The Public Safety Communication Officer (PSCO) is a key role in Department responsibility for the safety and well-being of Swarthmore College students, campus property, community members, and visitors. The Communication Officer will be responsible for courteous and active engagement with the community, through effective communication verbally and in writing. As a Communication Officer, you are the first contact for internal and external interactions and incidents involving the College and provide a service for routine and emergency calls to the College. You will receive initial information and take appropriate action to resolve or address the situation. You will manage the functions of the communication center as well as respond to radio transmissions and in person requests for assistance. You will also need to be able to have clear communication, verbally and written, for making reports on incidents and investigations.
In this role, the primary duties of the PSCO are to assure a continuity of practices and effective communication service to/for the Swarthmore College Department of Public Safety Communications Center (SCDPSCC), the College community, and local law enforcement agencies. This position requires a high degree of community engagement, cultural competency, ability to navigate complex protocol for effective decision making based upon Department and College guidelines. The ability to provide clear communication, often under pressure, in a multifaceted communication center, and navigate a variety of technology. Personnel in this position are considered “essential” in that they support a 24 hour, 7 day per week communication center operation. |
Director, Residential Communities

The Office of Student Engagement is seeking a Director of Residential Communities (DRC) to join the Student Life team. The Swarthmore College Student Life Team includes Student Activities & Leadership, Residential Communities, Case Management, the Inclusive Excellence Fellows Initiative, and Student Conduct.
The DRC is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Associate Dean and Director of Student Engagement. The DRC oversees a team of one associate director, four full-time area coordinators, and over 50 unionized student paraprofessional staff. This is a 12-month live-on position, with a partially furnished College owned residence, and on-call responsibilities that may include evening, holiday, and weekend commitments.
The Director of Residential Communities directs and manages all aspects of residential education and housing operations at the College. Typical responsibilities will include multiple housing projects with tight timelines, residentially focused programs, challenging housing operation requests, and fixed budgets. This position represents Swarthmore College to internal and external constituencies, including students, faculty, staff, vendors, comparable institutions, and parents. The Director must exercise high levels of discretion, independent judgment, and the ability to work collaboratively with a large number of College community members and offices. |
Area Coordinator

The Area Coordinator (AC) will work with the Office of Student Engagement (OSE) to supervise the residential community, which includes student staff supervision and training, crisis response, and community development. The AC will also provide substantial support to Student Activities programming through a collateral assignment and programming support.
The AC is a 12-month live-in position that collaborates with students, faculty, and staff in developing residential experiences that foster a sense of community and opportunities for the personal growth of community members. As a member of the Office of Student Engagement and Student Life team, ACs commit to developing student leaders who are ready to engage in a diverse, global world.
The AC position reports dually to the Director of Residential Communities for position aspects related to residential life and to the Director of Student Activities position for aspects related to student activities and collateral assignments.
The AC will serve in many capacities including: community builder, educator, supervisor, event programmer, and collaborator. In these roles, the AC helps shape the quality of the co-curricular experience for all students. |
McCabe Library Access & User Services Specialist (Limited Term)

The Access and User Services Specialist (Limited Term) is a member of the team-based operation of McCabe Library’s Access and User Services (A&US) department responsible for ensuring patron access to library collections, services, and facilities. The Specialist provides excellent customer service through responding to requests, informational queries, and through supervision of student workers. As a member of the department, the Specialist provides input into departmental policies and ensures their implementation.
This temporary position for the Swarthmore College Libraries will work at McCabe Library to assist in the day-to-day operations and customer support for the Libraries. The temporary position will be needed for 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm during the Spring 2025 semester through August 2025. |
Campus Services Assistant I

Under the general direction of the Post Office Supervisor, the Campus Services Assistant I operates the customer service window to facilitate any services provided by the College Post Office. This position must be able to perform all the operational functions of the College Post Office. As time permits, assist with customer service aspects of other Campus Services functions, including Fleet Management and OneCard Office. This position is expected to work on campus year round, 35 hours per week, except when the College’s summer hours are observed. |

Greenhouse & Garden Manager

The Greenhouse and Garden Manager (GGM) allocates their time between the Biology Department Greenhouse and the Environmental Studies Program Our Food Garden. The GGM is supervised by both department chairs, with the Biology Department chair serving as the GGM’s reporting supervisor. The position is divided as 57% biology and 43% ENVS.
Greenhouse: The GGM is responsible for managing and supervising the Biology Department greenhouse (GH) and operations in order to support the biology curriculum, the living biology plant collection, and research activities. The GGM will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure that plants grown in the GH for courses and research are healthy and vigorous. The position involves direct plant care, operation and maintenance of the GH, and supervision of part-time and student employees.
Gardens: The GGM focuses on supporting the Environmental Studies Program curriculum through year-round management of the Our Food Garden (OFG) and development of operations that connect students and the Swarthmore community to agriculture. The GGM will work closely with faculty, staff, and students to ensure that the OFG is healthy, productive, and educational, using agroecological practices when possible. They will work to create a safe, accessible, and visually engaging learning environment. |
Scott Arboretum Summer Intern

The Scott Arboretum Summer Internship offers a unique work experience in a campus arboretum well-suited to an individual interested in a career in ornamental/public horticulture. On-the-job training includes exposure to garden maintenance, plant records and curation, plant propagation, and volunteer interaction. Summer interns rotate with gardening staff affording exposure to all areas of the Scott Arboretum including but not limited to The Dean Bond Rose Garden, gardens of the Cunningham House and Wister Center, Fragrance Garden, Cosby Courtyard, Harry Wood Garden, green roofs, and seasonal container gardening featuring annuals and tropical plants. Other opportunities include: admittance to the Woody Plant Conference, weekly plant walks, lunch with the Director, field excursions to visit area gardens, informational sessions with staff, equipment use demonstration, and creating written and video content for our Garden Seeds blog.

Senior Project Manager

Sustainable Capital Planning and Project Management (SCPPM) is seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our team of planners, project managers, and interior designers. The SCPPM department is responsible for all major and minor construction projects for Swarthmore College.
Reporting to the Director of Sustainable Capital Planning and Project Management (SCPPM), the Senior Project Manager position directs and manages new construction, renovation, user fit out, capital and campus renewal projects ranging in cost up to and often exceeding $5M and occasionally exceeding $50M. Typical assignments will include multiple projects with tight timelines, focused programs, challenging site logistics and fixed budgets. This position represents Swarthmore College to internal and external constituencies including faculty, staff, students, architects, engineers, trade partners, and local government on a variety of issues related to project development and delivery.
