Provides reliable and independent assistance in maintaining and selling course materials, supplies, and other merchandise that directly affect the educational experience of students and the relationship experience with the community. The Trade Book Buyer and Customer Service Associate manages the trade book section of the store to determine titles to order for all general stock, new arrivals, and special event books. Manages wholesale orders from inception (including researching sources) through delivery and payment.

Essential Responsibilities:
Supports the Assistant Director in the management of textbook and course materials, including ordering, receiving, shelving, fulfilling online orders, and returning textbooks in a timely manner.
Researches, selects and purchases trade book products that fit the need for the store in an economical yet timely manner.
Procures the products, ensuring they arrive on time and in good condition; receives stock, regularly manages inventory, replenishing and rotating stock as needed.
Calculates retail prices for merchandise. Tags merchandise, stocks sales floor and stockroom
Keeps trade book shelves orderly and well labeled. Controls trade book back-stock inventory and processes returns in a timely manner.
As key holder, opens and closes the Store at the scheduled time. Disarms and arms the security alarm, opens the safe, counts and reconciles cash drawers, opens and closes down the cash register software, reconciles cash drawers, and vacuums after closing. Ensures that all opening and closing procedures are completed, whether working alone or supervising non-key holder staff.
Under the direction of the Store Director, assists in the coordination and scheduling of Author events.
Provides excellent customer service, assists in phone and email support while answering questions and giving directions to provide correct information to customers.
Greets all visitors in a manner that promotes a positive College-wide image exhibiting that customer assistance takes precedence over administrative and merchandising tasks.

Additional Responsibilities:
Maintains knowledge of the store’s point of sale system.
Operates the cash register as needed, especially during busy times. Remains aware of customers at registers and stops work in order to provide customer service.
Contacts customers when special orders need to be picked up.
Coordinates with other staff members to insure efficiency, speed, and accuracy in receiving, shelving, storing, and returning merchandise.
Assists with unloading merchandise from deliveries and unpacking boxes. Checks merchandise received against purchase orders. Contacts vendors when orders are short or missing. Gives appropriate paperwork to Operations manager or Assistant Director for processing.

Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required.
1 year of customer service experience, preferably in a retail setting.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills, as well as flexibility to perform duties in a position that has constant interruptions.
Must be detail oriented and some mathematical skills needed.

Physical Demands
Must have the ability to unload trucks and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to bend and stoop to stock low shelves. Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Working Conditions
Work schedule fluctuates depending on special events, College events including start of the semesters and Commencement, and traffic at the store.
