ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, OFF-CAMPUS STUDY

The associate director works on assessment of the education abroad experience and the effectiveness of the office, as well as on research projects and reports. The associate director contributes to the coordination and administration of the Swarthmore Semester/Year Abroad program, and provides risk management support to other students who travel abroad. The associate director develops budgets for student travel and living costs, coordinates payments, works with the business office, and reconciles office budgets. The associate director has direct responsibility for program management and advising students for assigned programs and assists them in their post-admission study abroad planning.  The associate writes and edits for the office website and other publications, and participates in office outreach and other activities.  *This position is an Exempt Grade 07.

Essential Responsibilities

The associate director will have responsibilities in the following areas:

  • Academic Credit Support to Students and Curricular Integration with Academic Departments
  • Assessment
  • Advising, Preparation, Orientation, and Support to Students Prior to Travel and While Abroad
  • Program Administration
  • Payment Plan Coordination and Budget Responsibilities for Assigned Programs
  • Website and Publications

Additional Responsibilities

  • Serves as an ex-officio member of the Off-Campus Study Committee
  • Serves as the NSEP Boren and Gilman Representative
  • Assists in planning office events (e.g., Study Abroad Fair)
  • Assists with Off-Campus Study planning and procedures, and research projects

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Jointly supervises student workers
  • May lead projects that include other OCS staff members, as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master's degree required or a Bachelor's degree with a combination of work and experience
  • Minimum five year’s experience in the field of education abroad, including advising students, program management, risk management and other administrative experience, preferably in a college or university setting
  • Experience living, studying, and/or working abroad
  • Must be able and willing to travel both domestically and internationally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Terra Dotta software
  • Knowledge of a foreign language
