The Chester Children’s Chorus is hiring for the role of summer learning program upper school Program Coordinator. The program runs from Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, August 1, 2018. The successful candidate would be available for planning hours (10-15 total hours before camp) beginning as soon as possible. Founded in 1994 by John Alston, the Chester Children's Chorus (CCC) is the only rigorous music education program currently in Chester, PA for grades 3-12. All CCC students are welcome to spend six weeks of their summer on the Swarthmore College campus, where chorus members participate in daily choral music instruction, dance, art, and academic and physical recreation classes. The upper school coordinator’s primary role is serving as the manager of our festival and concert choirs (grades 6-12). The coordinator would report to the Artistic Director with added support from program staff. Camp occurs on the Swarthmore College campus. Before camp starts:
-Be part of the planning team for classes
-Be present at our “camp” open house on Friday, April 27 to greet families
-Attend junior counselor training sessions
-Attend group staff meeting
The coordinator will work Monday through Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with the
exception of July 4 and July 27 when we are closed. Fridays hours are modified to
accommodate field trips.
Responsibilities during camp:
-Assure staff and children helping the festival and concert choirs understand and meet chorus
expectations for courtesy, cleanliness, orderliness, and promptness in moving between classes
-Manage the festival chorus and concert choir issues as they arise, in consultation with the
Artistic Director, John Alston
-Oversee junior counselors
-Attend Friday field trip activities
-Supervise lunch periods and helping with class supervision and discipline as needed.
-Assist with clean-up
-Participate in de-briefing meetings
- Bachelor’s degree in education, with minimum 3 years’ experience or equivalent experience in a summer camp program
- Team player
- Strong passion and desire to work with children
