The Staff Counselor position provides direct clinical services to students (including but not limited to: triage, individual and group counseling, and crisis intervention), outreach programming and professional training to the Swarthmore College community on a variety of mental health topics, clinical training to practicum students and interns as needed, and consultations to faculty and staff regarding college student mental health. This 9-month position works during the academic year, mid-August through mid-May, and is paid over 12 months, so benefits continue during the summer months. |

Assistant Director, Communications & Engagement

The Assistant Director for Communications & Engagement advances the department's recognition and amplifies its reach through data-informed analysis and cutting-edge communication strategies. Reporting to the Associate Director of Technology & Assessment, with close collaboration with the Assistant Vice President & Executive Director on special projects, the Assistant Director for Communications & Engagement oversees integrated marketing efforts and data management practices to enhance, assess, and expand student, alumni, and employer engagement.
This on-site role involves curating inclusive and compelling digital and print content to amplify the reach and effectiveness of the department's initiatives, and often includes liaising with offices across campus to coordinate these efforts. Tracking a variety of engagement metrics, the Assistant Director provides monthly stats and produces annual reports & visualizations that help identify campus engagement trends that enhance initiative and service delivery assessment. The person in this position is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising digital media and data analyst interns who create content for social media as well as clean/analyze engagement and student outcomes data. This position plays a crucial role in aligning with institutional goals and promoting the department's mission, values, and impact. We are a 35 hour per week, in-person office with normal operating hours of 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. |
Culinary Associate (Cook)

Responsibilities include assisting with execution of menu items, food safety and the proper sanitation of all kitchen equipment. This is a 9-month position, expected to work between the months of August and May. |
Production & Sous Chef Manager

Reporting to the Executive Sous Chef, the Production and Sous Chef Manager will be primarily responsible for customer relations, developing and executing menu plans within the menu management system, managing food budgets, and overseeing the maintenance of all kitchen equipment in the main kitchen. This position will ensure food costs are controlled, inventory is managed efficiently, and operations stay within the financial targets outlined by the board operations budget. A key responsibility of this role is managing the menu management system by developing and inputting recipes, maintaining the system, and using it for production and inventory tracking.
Dining is a 7 days a week operation, including some holidays. In this position, the expectation is to work 12pm-8:30pm, including weekends. The schedule will be provided weekly. |

Oversees the Utility (Dish & Pots) team to ensure that all staff are following proper cleaning and sanitation protocols and procedures. Ensures proper chemicals are being used and accurate dish machine temperatures are maintained.
Provides timely and reliable cleaning and maintenance support for Swarthmore Dining. Ensures the availability of a clean and sanitary supply of dishware, glassware, trays, pots, pans, utensils, and/or other smallwares. Responsible for cleaning of equipment, kitchen, and floors as needed throughout each meal period. Maintains and sanitizes the dish machine & pot area, pulper room and extruder room. Ensures a clean dining service facility. Must interact well with customers, co-workers and supervisors. Must work effectively, both independently and as a team member. Assistant Horticulture Supervisor

Provides timely and reliable support for assisting with the supervision of gardeners, as well as directly performing gardening care and maintenance of the Scott Arboretum & Gardens plant collections and garden areas. Coordinates restoration projects and regular maintenance of the Crum Woods and coordinates and implements the deer control program. Ensures proper record keeping and inventory of horticultural chemicals, pesticides, application equipment, and personal protection equipment for the department. Assists in supervising horticulturists, interns, and student workers. Provides knowledge and guidance for sustainable landscapes and integrated pest management, and monitors for insects and diseases for the department. Performs necessary grounds maintenance tasks. The CRO is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of Swarthmore College students, campus property, community members, and visitors. The officer will be responsible for courteous and active engagement with the community. As an officer, you are the first responders to incidents involving the College and provide a service for routine and emergency calls to the College. You will conduct initial and follow-up investigations as needed and will respond to medical, fire, and intrusion alarm incidents. You will also need to be able to have clear communication, verbally and written, for making reports on incidents and investigations.
The schedule for this position is Thursdays and Saturdays 9 pm - 3 am. |

The Associate Director, Horticulture provides leadership and professional horticultural and managerial expertise in overseeing horticultural operations of the Scott Arboretum & Gardens and the team of 14 horticulturists and others that perform this work. Leads sustainability work for the landscapes, gardens and Crum Woods. Utility Plant Operator/Technician

The role of the Utility Plant Operator/Technician is to work in conjunction with the Utility Mechanics to operate, maintain and repair all equipment and devices relating to the College’s heating and cooling plants. This is primarily an operating and maintenance role working with Medium Pressure Boilers and Chillers up to 750 tons. The position will support the transition from steam and the current district cooling system to the new geoexchange system currently under construction as part of the 20X35 energy plan. This position requires working on equipment where 480v three phase power is commonplace, high temperature piping is present, and medium pressure steam (150 psi) is present. A Utility Plant Operator/Technician is expected to have formal education and licensing to operate high pressure boilers and the ability to make program changes to operating systems and monitor systems to assure safe operation. |

Postdoctoral Researcher

We invite applications for an experimental research postdoctoral position in the Smith Materials Lab led by Associate Prof. Hillary Smith in the Physics Department at Swarthmore College. We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with a PhD in materials science, physics, applied physics, mechanical engineering or closely related field. Applicants with strong experimental skills and experience in neutron or X-ray scattering are especially encouraged to apply.
This DOE-funded position is for a research project aimed at investigating dynamics in glass-forming liquids. Ongoing projects study a variety of glasses including metallic, oxide, molecular, and chalcogenide glasses. Neutron scattering experiments, with a focus on quasielastic and inelastic measurements, are performed at national user facilities, particularly the Spallation Neutron Source at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The postdoctoral fellow will be encouraged to lead the project, collaborate with the PI and undergraduate students on high-impact publications, and present at key conferences in the field.
The Smith Materials Lab is an interdisciplinary group of undergraduate students and research staff that thrives on teamwork and welcomes diverse candidates to join us. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a keen interest in developing leadership and mentoring skills. The successful candidate will work closely with undergraduate students at Swarthmore College. Therefore, demonstrated teamwork ability and experience in mentoring is required.
The position provides plenty of opportunities to interact with faculty, postdocs, and undergraduate students in other departments at Swarthmore College and with national and international collaborators.
